In one of the stranger stories involving a Tottenham player, Ivan Perisic has been fined for not turning up to court.
The case doesn’t primarily involve him, but he was expected to appear before the judge on Wednesday in a defamation case involving Mauro Icardi.
This is according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who state ‘the Court of Milan decided on a €500 fine against Ivan Perisic for not appearing in the courtroom as a witness’.
This comes after a photographer, called Fabrizio Corona, has been accused of defamation after he ‘published an article entitled “Mauro Icardi divorces his wife – Wanda Nara cheated on her partner with Marcelo Brozovic”’ back in 2019.
The Tottenham player ‘is in fact involved in the trial’, and ‘should have been in court’ on Wednesday, but did not show up ‘due to the Champions League match’ that saw Spurs face Eintracht Frankfurt.
The judge, Elisabetta Canevini, then ordered for him to be ‘brought to testify by the police’ when the ‘next hearing’ takes place, which is now expected to be January 25th.
That should work for Perisic, as looking at Tottenham’s calendar around that time, they face Fulham away on January 21st, before facing Manchester City at home on February 4th.
However, that doesn’t include any cup games Spurs might be involved in, but the FA Cup’s fourth round could get in the way, as that is set to take place on January 28th.
Just for the record, Mauro Icardi also wasn’t present, as the Argentine, loaned to Galatasaray from Paris Saint-Germain ‘has not left his new address’, and therefore couldn’t be summoned.
