Barcelona are yet to press for a move for Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso but will do so if they secure their other midfield targets.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the midfielder is ‘very much to Xavi Hernandez’s liking’ as has already been reported.

The newspaper expands on reports yesterday that Barcelona were looking at the Tottenham man as a potential option for their midfield this summer.

The Catalans are keen to bring in players in that area of the team, particularly after Sergio Busquets’ departure, and Lo Celso had reportedly been identified as an option.

MD now explain that the Argentine wouldn’t be arriving as a replacement for Busquets but rather a ‘playmaker’ who can help the side closer to the opposition’s box.

Because of that, Barcelona, specifically Xavi, are only ‘keeping a close eye’ on him at this moment in time as they are prioritising the signing of a defensive midfielder and Ilkay Gundogan.

If both of those arrive and the option for more signings exists, then the coach would like to have a playmaker in his squad and the one he ‘likes most’ is Lo Celso.

He currently belongs to Tottenham and will be returning there this summer after consecutive loan spells at Villarreal but whether he has a future at the club is debatable to say the least and there may be a favourable deal there to be done for the Spanish champions.
