Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-0 at home to Manchester United on Saturday. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford sent the atmosphere around the two clubs in differing directions.
For Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the win quietened down talk of a crisis brewing at Old Trafford, and diluted further the idea that Antonio Conte could quickly be taking over at the Red Devils.
In contrast to things calming at Manchester United, Tottenham’s situation has travelled further in a negative direction. There’s fresh doubts around the impact Nuno Espirito Santo is having at Spurs, and on Saturday evening, Conte claims started.
The club’s managing director, Fabio Paratici, is currently ‘betting strongly’ on appointing the Italian manager, and the whole thing is hyped up.
Whether this is all a tactic from Conte’s camp to put pressure on Manchester United to move on from Solskjaer is unclear, but that can’t be ruled out.
