Over the past few days there’s been several reports from Italy making Milan Skriniar to Tottenham sound like a near dead deal. A potential transfer had hit the rocks after Spurs started to give Inter Milan the silent treatment.
As we explained at the time, that could have been a tactic, with Jose Mourinho’s club potentially returning with an offer closer to the deadline and hoping that in the pressure of the moment the Serie A club would accept.
Inter then made their own chess move, with sports director Piero Ausilio going public to say the defender wouldn’t be leaving: “We reiterated that Skriniar is not on the market and no offers have arrived in this sense, rather than reiterating that he will stay here I don’t know what to say.”
La Repubblica now report that Tottenham ‘do not give up’ and are continuing with efforts to sign Skriniar. The Italian newspaper say it’s Mourinho pushing for the signing, and that Spurs are preparing a ‘last assault’ to try and get a deal done.
Given the stage of the window, it’s explained seeing ‘white smoke’ on the transfer will be difficult, partly because Inter would have to find themselves a replacement.
If Tottenham are waiting to pounce then it’s probably best they do it sooner rather than later.
