Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has identified West Ham’s Issa Diop as his number one signing to strengthen his defence this summer.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the Portuguese boss has made the ‘reconstruction’ of his defence a number one priority, particularly with Jan Vertonghen departing.
And, according to their sources, it is West Ham’s Diop who at the top of his list, with the Hammers star keen on the move should it be offered.
The Frenchman arrived at West Ham in a £22.5m deal from Toulouse in 2018 but ‘would agree’ to move across London according to FM.
He is not the only Premier League youngster Mourinho is targeting according to the website, though, with players from Norwich and Leicester also on his list.
The Spurs boss is also targeting a new right-back and has identified Canaries youngster Max Aarons as a potential signing, alongside Thomas Meunier and Emerson Junior.
The Norwich man may not be an easy signing to get over the line, though, with his current contract running until 2024 meaning a deal would be ‘no small feat’.
On the opposite side, Leicester’s Ben Chilwell has become the ‘priority’ to upgrade the left-back spot this summer.
He’s expected to ‘receive and exit voucher’ from the Kingpower this summer having established himself a star for Leicester under Brendan Rodgers this season.
Should he arrive, he will compete with Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies for first-choice status, with Mourinho’s plan to then move on to keeping players at the club, namely Harry Kane.
