Forever a Marseille legend after scoring the winning goal against AC Milan in the 1993 Champions League final, Basile Boli remains an active member of the Ligue 1 club in an ambassadorial role.
The 50-year-old is often found giving interviews about the side and present at the vast majority of the games, including the 0-0 draw against Toulouse a week or so ago.
Also invited to that game to celebrate Toulouse’s 80-year anniversary was Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko, who left the purple and white club in 2013 after six years in their first team to join Newcastle for £1.7m.
Since then, the France international’s time in England has been very up and down before eventually earning himself a £30m move to White Hart Lane last summer, which hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
Despite making 30 appearances for Spurs this season, he has only averaged 38 minutes on the pitch each time, and is yet to justify his large transfer fee.
So much so, in fact, that talk of an early exit this summer has been touted, with Marseille a possible destination.
Le10 Sport on Tuesday report that Basile Boli was spotted during the Toulouse game in deep conversation with the Tottenham midfielder, which has sparked even more rumours of a return to Ligue 1 come the end of the season.
Sissoko is said to have been placed on the transfer list at White Hart Lane, and with the player looking for a new challenge, a move to a resurgent Marseille could be very attractive.
This is, of course, still speculation, but if Basile Boli, a well respected former France international did get the message across, one largely consisting of “playing with the likes of Dimitri Payet and Patrice Evra next season,” Tottenham fans might have an early Christmas present to celebrate in the coming weeks.
