Tottenham midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has been ‘mentioned’ in transfer discussions at Ajax, but will probably be too expensive for the Dutch side.
That’s according to De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij, who say the player has been looked at as Ajax look for a holding midfielder in January.
Hojbjerg has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham in the winter window after barely featuring under Ange Postecoglou this season.
The Australian coach has preferred the new partnership of Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma in the middle of the park so far and that duo has been a key part of the success they’ve enjoyed so far.
That’s left Hojbjerg on the outside looking in, with 11 appearances in the league but just 35% of the available minutes played so far.
He does not appear to be a major part of the club’s plans moving forwards and thus has been linked with a move away, with clubs in Italy and Spain believed to be eyeing a potential deal.
Ajax can now be added to that mix according to Verweij, although they may not have the funds to satisfy Tottenham’s demands.
“Ajax wants a controlling midfielder and preferably a right winger. Then players really have to be sold,” he said.
“There is a small pot, so they could get someone. The name of Højbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur is mentioned, but it is probably much too expensive.
“Apparently a club recently offered twenty million. I don’t think he will be signed.”
