As Tottenham Hotspur continue their chase for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero, a new bid from the Premier League side was made, according to claims from Italy.

CalcioMercato.it today reports that Spurs submitted an offer of €55m for the player.

They say this is a ‘monstrous’ figure, but still doesn’t mean that Atalanta are convinced of making the sale. The Serie A side continue to make it a ‘difficult negotiation’.

The website points out that Tottenham have been signalling that this could be the final bid for Romero. They want him to replace Toby Alderweireld, and it’s Fabio Paratici who works on the operation, pushing for the deal.

The report doesn’t say, with direct words, that Atalanta turned down Tottenham’s offer, but they do make it sound like the Italian club will continue pushing to get more money for the 23-year-old.

As Calcio Mercato explains that the negotiations are ‘complex’, they add that Barcelona continue pressing for Romero as well, which feels unlikely given their financial situation. It’s said the Catalan side could still make another offer, although they depend on sales to raise money for that.
