Expected to sign for Manchester City in January 2017, Mickaël Cuisance eventually ended up penning a deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany, where he enjoyed a very good first season.

The 18-year-old appeared to grow in confidence as the season went on, and impressed enough to already earn himself a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2023.

Of course, as well as his performances, there was another reason for the German side to tie him down for the foreseeable future: interest from bigger sides, including Tottenham.

Foot Mercato are the ones with the information on Friday, looking at why Cuisance deserved his new deal, and reported that Spurs, alongside RB Leipzig, AS Roma, AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund, were one of the clubs to have ‘contacted him’.

Instead of leaping to a new challenge straight away, perhaps one where he wouldn’t get the first-team football he requires to develop, the youngster decided to stay put for the foreseeable future,

It seems unlikely that Mauricio Pochettino would have found a spot for him in his Tottenham team next year, while Gladbach have already made it clear he will be one of their regulars next season, gaining his manager’s trust over the last campaign.
