Tottenham remain interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who could be on his way out of the German club this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say Leipzig have already planned for a departure by picking up the Austrian’s replacement in January.
Sabitzer is one of the undisputed stars of the current Leipzig team, having established himself in the heart of their midfield since arriving from Rapid Vienna in 2014.
He’s long been linked with a move to the Premier League and particularly Tottenham, more so after he was seen chatting to Jose Mourinho after a Champions League clash last year.
Since then, there have been numerous reports about their interest, with the last coming in January and stating that the player remained on their wish-list and Leipzig were readying themselves for a summer bid.
SportBILD back that up somewhat today and state that the Bundesliga side have ‘already repositioned’ themselves should Sabitzer say ‘farewell’.
It’s explained ‘Tottenham are interested’ in the 26-year-old, and if that becomes something concrete, Leipzig already have his replacement in Dominik Szoboszlai.
He arrived in a move from Red Bull Salzburg in January and has been absent with adductor problems, but the plan is for him to slot into the gap left by Sabitzer if he makes a move.
Now, there’s no mention of a bid or talks with Spurs at this point, nor is there any mention of a transfer fee; SportBILD simply state that Tottenham remain interested in him.
But given he’s been heavily linked for the last year and has impressed again this season, this looks like a transfer that will very much be on the agenda come the summer.
