On Tuesday, we covered claims from Belgium that Tottenham Hotspur are making efforts to sign Gent star Gift Orban. Later that day, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated Spurs are expected to accelerate talks for the striker this week.
De Morgen state Gent have a decision to make on whether to sell the Tottenham target or Hugo Cuypers.
Bologna have made a €14m bid for Cuypers but it didn’t please the Belgian club. They may allow one of them to leave and are ‘mainly looking for developments’ around Orban.
Gent signed the 21-year-old for €3.3m in January. He scored 25 goals from 26 games and that has seen his valuation rise to €30m.
The Jupiler Pro League side want to cash in from his sale and the player would also be open to a transfer this summer.
Gent’s stance will please Tottenham, who are ‘convinced of his qualities’. It’s said they first want to get rid of a ‘handful of superfluous’ players, before making an approach for Orban.
De Morgen say Ange Postecoglou’s side have not yet made a final decision to ‘go all in’ but are keeping the contact ‘warm’ with both Gent and Orban’s entourage. That’s to help them take the frontman ‘quickly’, if they decide to move in to secure his services.
Lille are also in the picture but it’s impossible for them to compete with Tottenham. If Spurs sign Orban, the report states it’s not clear if they would include him in the squad or send him out on loan immediately.
