Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of the clubs who interested in signing Palmeiras left-back Joaquin Piquerez.
The information actually comes from France, where journalist Marc Mechenoua mainly claims Marseille have been chasing the 23-year-old.
He then says that the Ligue 1 side would have some competition for the signing. That’s because Tottenham, along with an unnamed German club, ‘appreciate’ the player.
There’s no information on how much those clubs would need to pay to take him away from Palmeiras. And even though we’re pretty sure the Brazilian media will soon come up with that information, the big local outlets are still to confirm the pursuit.
Piquerez was signed from Penarol a year ago in a €3.2m deal, and it didn’t take long for him to become a regular starter at Abel Ferreira’s side, despite the joint arrival of Jorge, from AS Monaco, for the same position.
What could make things complicated for Tottenham and others is that Palmeiras are one of the clubs with the best financial conditions in South America. Their president, Leila Pereira, already claimed they’re not selling players, so it will take a considerable amount of money to make them change their mind.
