Tottenham have begun to fight with Barcelona over the signing of AS Monaco full-back Vanderson, who looks increasingly likely to move on this summer.

That’s according to UOL and journalist Bruno Andrade, who say Vanderson is now the target of a behind the scenes dispute between Barcelona and Tottenham.

He reports that both clubs have announced that they are willing to open negotiations at the end of the season, having been interested in the right-back for months. Monaco are dreaming of sale worth more than €35m.

Barcelona are currently out in front; they have more need of a new right-back than Tottenham, but any move for him would depend on authorisation from La Liga. That could be an obstacle which opens the path to Tottenham instead.

In addition, taxes in Spain are higher than in Spain than in England, which would mean Monaco would lose around 15% of the sale. Thus, they could also prefer to sell to Tottenham.

Spurs, though, already have Pedro Porro at right-back and it would be surprising if they’re willing to spend €35m on Vanderson because of that.

They have been linked with Vanderson for some time, though, and this potential battle with Barcelona for him has been popping up all over the place as something of a caveat over the last week too.

That would suggest there is something to the suggestion, or, alternatively, Tottenham’s name is being used to maybe push Barcelona along.
