Despite all the recent stories which said Tottenham Hotspur were leading the race for Bruno Fernandes from Sporting, it looks like the London side may not be ready to move for the player just yet.

The interest from Spurs hasn’t been getting many mentions in the past couple of days, with the Portuguese press back to considering Manchester United to be the frontrunners.

And in a story from O Jogo today, they make it more clear why Tottenham are being left behind. It’s all to do with Christian Eriksen.

The newspaper explains Spurs are currently ‘hostages’ of the Dane’s situation. They would only advance for Bruno Fernandes in case Eriksen confirms his departure.

That’s the opposite of the situation at Manchester United, who are making a move for the player regardless of Paul Pogba’s future at the club.

With the Portuguese media saying the Red Devils are making a bid for Fernandes this week, perhaps he will be moving to England before Eriksen’s future is sorted out.
