It’s been a while since we’ve seen any news of Inter being interested in Erik Lamela, but it’s back.
After all, we shouldn’t be surprised, as the Serie A side are after a creative attacking midfielder, having focused on Javier Pastore and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the past month or so.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday reveal Tottenham’s Argentinian winger could also be a ‘surprise option’ for Luciano Spalletti’s side if deals for the other two don’t materialise.
Sidelined for the best part of a year with a hip injury, Lamela returned to action towards the end of November, and has been slowly eased back into action by Mauricio Pochettino, getting his first start against Brighton in mid-December.
This return coupled with previous interest from Inter and their need for a player like him means we could be in for a month of will they won’t they, especially if Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United don’t play ball.
If they do turn their attention to Lamela down the line, then Tottenham will have a big decision to make.
Having the Argentina international back is certainly a boost, but it will all come down to how valuable Mauricio Pochettino sees him going forward.
