Reading the Portuguese media today, we can see a couple of interesting stories regarding Marcus Edwards’ form at Vitória Guimarães.
The winger, who left Tottenham Hotspur for the Liga Bwin side in 2019, already has four goals and two assists this season, and could now have the best season in his career.
That of course links him to the possibility of a move to a richer club, and that’s exactly what newspapers such as Jornal de Notícias and O Jogo are mentioning today.
It turns out that in case the move indeed happens, Tottenham will have 50% of the sale, as that was agreed when the clubs sorted his free move a couple of years ago.
First writing that Edwards is showing ‘his most accurate version’, newspaper O Jogo claims he’s been keeping himself in the radar of English clubs and Olympiakos since the summer.
It’s written that Vitória Guimarães do not rule out selling the player in January in case they manage to get a fee they can’t refuse.
Now newspaper Jornal de Notícias seems to be a little more sure that the winger will be the subject of talks, as they bring a headline saying ‘Edwards grows and moves the market’.
They claim the player promises to ‘shake European football’ as he’s an asset Vitória Guimarães should make money with.
It’s said that there were clubs interested in his signing back in the summer, but with offers below €10m, the Portuguese club turned down the offers.
Jornal de Notícias writes he’s once again linked to the English market, also recalling that clubs such as Leeds United, Olympiacos, Sporting and Porto were possibilities for him in the past.
Edwards is protected by a release clause of €50m, and even though Vitória Guimarães are unlikely to make that much with his sale, Tottenham will still be watching to see how much they’ll get from his transfer soon.
