All throughout the World Cup, the Italian press were adamant Inter would make a move for Tottenham’s Mousa Dembélé when Belgium’s time in Russia came to an end.

Once that was over, we were blessed with articles about how the Chinese Super League money was a worry and the Serie A side would wait until that was closed before putting in a bid.

And now? Nothing.

After article upon article and column inches upon column inches, Mousa Dembélé’s future won’t be at Inter.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport report on Friday, claiming the Tottenham midfielder is an option that has now ‘faded’, but the reason isn’t given.

Whether it was Daniel Levy refusing to budge on his €30m stance, which the Italians felt was too much for a player entering the last year of his contract, we don’t know, but Inter are now focusing on signing a full-back, and now looking elsewhere to bolster their midfield.

Is this good news for Spurs?

Dembélé has made it pretty clear he doesn’t want to renew with the London club, so one scenario here is that he runs down his deal and leaves on a free next summer.
