Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko has another week to seal a move away from the Championship club. The Frenchman has been strongly linked to Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Crystal Palace, but it now appears Inter Milan are the ones in pole position.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe on Wednesday, Inter have already met Sissoko’s representatives twice over the possibility of a move to Italy.
L’Equipe say Inter are expected to ‘very quickly’ make an offer of €35m, but the Magpies are holding out for €40m. It is reported Inter could face competition from Everton and Tottenham, and that the player would also prefer a move to a Premier League club.
From the way the article is worded, the Tottenham and Everton interest claim doesn’t sound like something recycled from earlier in the rumour.
Inter boss Frank de Boer has already confirmed interest in Sissoko, but the Serie A club are believed to also be in negotiations to sign Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario. They can’t afford both.
We’d be very surprised if Inter did offer €35m straight-up, with no strings attached. The Italian club are routinely reported to be on the verge of completing deals, but finances often get in the way.
Newcastle signed Sissoko from Toulouse in a €2.5m deal in 2013, and could make a huge profit on the 27-year-old.
