Italian duo Guglielmo Vicario and Destiny Udogie are quickly on their way to becoming ‘untouchable’ at Tottenham after establishing themselves early on under Ange Postecoglou.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who cover the duo today and shower them in praise following Spurs’ flying start to the season.
The newspaper labels the goalkeeper as the ‘immovable starting goalkeeper’ and Udogie as the 20-year-old with ‘boldness’ who is on course to be ‘one of the young revelations’ of the Premier League season.
They say the pair have quickly become ‘untouchable’ for Postecoglou and Tottenham at the beginning of the season and justified that status with increasingly impressive performances.
They’ve been protagonists of a ‘rebirth’ at the start of Postecoglou’s reign, with the Australian coach singling him out for praise in comments this week.
He’s impressed by the goalkeepers work behind the scenes, showing a desire to learn constantly that coaches love to see. That has also been praised elsewhere in Italy today.
Udogie, meanwhile, has been the ‘surprise’, having been signed from Udinese last season and sent back on loan to the Italian club for the year.
He returned this summer and ‘presented himself in good shape’ in pre-season, so much so that Postecoglou was ready to hand him the starting role at left-back.
He’s rewarded that faith, ‘showing personality and confidence’ on the pitch that go far beyond his youth and relative inexperience.
He has also seemingly been unaffected by the change of scenery, from Italy to England and Serie A to the ‘most difficult Championship in the world’ or the new role at Tottenham either.
He, like Vicario, represents the idea Postecoglou has for Tottenham say the newspaper. One of ‘constant growth’ and ‘continuous improvement’ of a game to be ‘developed and imposed’.
They’re now the ‘cornerstones’ of the new project that’s underway, something which is not going unnoticed in their homeland.
