Transfer rumours surrounding Tottenham and Hugo Lloris might have been a bit quieter of late since all the focus has been on the return of Premier League football, but they haven’t gone altogether.
That’s because it’s a subject that needs looking into, as the France international isn’t going to be there forever and will need replacing at some point.
It won’t be an easy task, as the goalkeeper has been a near immovable object at White Hart Lane and more recently Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but some names are circulating.
The one recurring the most has been that of Mike Maignan, currently at Lille, who now acts as third choice for the France national team.
The 24-year-old has been in good form the past two years, and La Voix du Nord say he ‘can envision’ an exit this summer and believe he could follow in Lloris’ footsteps, jumping from France to Spurs, much like the 33-year-old did when he left Lyon in 2012.
The reason for that remains Nuno Santos, whom José Mourinho poached from Lille when he took over at Tottenham, who has been ‘promoting’ the player to the Portuguese manager.
Maignan still has two years left on his contract at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, meaning the Ligue 1 side don’t really have to do anything if they don’t want to, knowing full well they can get money elsewhere in their squad.
That being said, they have already ‘anticipated’ his exit with the arrival of Léo Jardim last year, and the Brazilian ‘seems ready’ to take over if needed.
