Spanish outlet Super Deporte features today an interesting interview with Argentine winger Fede Cartabia, relaying the Olimpia Santa Teresa Instagram account.
The 28-year-old is currently having a spell United Arab Emirates, playing for Shabab Dubai on a loan from Deportivo La Coruña.
Cartabia has spoken a lot about his past in La Liga, since he’s played for several clubs, and it turns out he revealed that he could’ve joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League as well.
He says it happened in the 2014/15 season, when Valencia loaned him out to Córdoba.
“And there I was wrong to go to Córdoba, they should’ve sent me to a more important club, because I had options and was 19 years old. Córdoba came from promotion from the Second Division and they created a responsibility for me like I had to keep the team.”
“The first five games I scored four goals and people were talking about me. Tottenham called me, I remember, but an agreement wasn’t reached with Córdoba because they didn’t want to sell me. One of the many anecdotes that I have, I had the possibility but it did not happen.”
Cartabia returned to Valencia at the end of that season, and has been full of ups and downs since then. He was loaned out to Deportivo La Coruña the following summer, making his move permanent in January 2017.
Once joining La Coruña, he was loaned out to Portuguese side Braga for only six months. He then stayed at the Spanish side for two more years until getting this current loan at the United Arab Emirates.
His contract with the La Liga side expires in 2021, and it looks unlikely he’ll have another chance to make a move to the Premier League.
