Tottenham, Bournemouth and Manchester United were all scouting Elfsborg this week, as they eye players from the club and potentially even the manager.
That’s according to Aftonbladet, who report that the win over Roma was attended by scouts from Tottenham, Bournemouth and Manchester United.
The newspaper repots that coach Oscar Hiljemark is likely to be on the radar of bigger sides after leading the Swedish side to success in the league, then Europa League qualifying and now this win over Roma.
They were 1-0 winners on matchday two on Thursday, with Michael Baidoo’s penalty proving to be the difference.
It was Elfsborg’s first points on the board after the 3-2 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in their opening game and, undeniably, a huge scalp, something Aftonbladet believe won’t have gone unnoticed. And club manager Stefan Andreasson agrees.
“Oscar Hiljemark will have a career outside of Scandinavia,” he said.
“We’ll see. I am the first to congratulate both players and managers when they take the next step, says Elfsborg’s club manager Stefan Andreasson.
“I am very happy for Jimmy Thelin (now in Aberdeen). It’s going pretty decent for him. I am very happy that we have Hiljemark now. He will have a career outside Scandinavia. I can say that for sure.”
And he’s not the only from Elfsborg earning attention, with the newspaper stating that players like Besfort Zeneli, Timothy Ouma and Baidoo are followed by many Club.
Manchester United, Tottenham and Bournemouth were all in the stands for this game alongside the likes of Real Sociedad, Bologna and Genoa. There were also several MLS teams in attendance.
Whether the Premier League trio ever move remains to be seen but it appears the interest is there, and their scouts are watching as they continue to impress alongside their manager.
