Those waiting for Kelechi Iheanacho to shine at Sevilla may be in for a long and disappointing experience, with the striker still yet to get going in Spain after his arrival from Leicester City.
That’s at least if the latest comments from teammate Chidera Ejuke to Marca are anything to go by, with him admitting his Nigerian compatriot is not at his best as yet.
Iheanacho joined Sevilla on a free transfer in the summer after his contract with Leicester came to an end and they decided to part ways.
He was warmly welcomed at Sevilla, who were happy to sign him on a free and considered their ability to get him as something of a coup.
Director of football Victor Orta was certainly praised at the time but that has quickly dwindled away as Iheanacho has failed to appear at the start of the season.
Questions have been raised on that subject over the last few weeks, with the club even going out of their way to insist the striker is not injured and simply still adapting to his new club and a new country.
That’s not really washed with Sevilla fans, particularly as their side continue to struggle and the man brought in to score goals sits on the bench.
And Ejuke says that is all his teammate wants to do, defending the former Leicester man somewhat in his comments today.
“Kelechi is a great guy. He’s a good player,” he said.
“That’s why Victor Orta brought him to Sevilla. A good guy. Obviously at the moment… he’s a striker and he wants to score goals; he wants to help the team.
“So, he’s probably thinking about that. But I think above all that he’s a great guy, a good person who brings a lot of energy to the team.”
