Tottenham have taken a break in their football calendar as an opportunity for some training in Barcelona over the past few days, and for Mauricio Pochettino it’s been a chance to watch some Spanish football.
He saw Barcelona’s youngsters in the UEFA Youth League earlier this week, and on Sunday he went to watch his beloved Espanyol facing Sevilla, report Mundo Deportivo.
Sevilla are sixth in La Liga and Pochettino’s former club are thirteenth, so it was always likely to be an away victory rather than the result the Tottenham boss will have wanted in Barcelona.
Sacking their manager this week and replacing him with sporting director Joaquín Caparrós, the Spanish club this weekend announced that Monchi, who had been much linked with Arsenal, had returned to the club.
There’s some positivity, and the 1-0 victory over Espanyol will add to that.
At the start of the second half, Wissam Ben Yedder, who is receiving a lot of attention at the moment, scored the only goal of the game.
Tottenham haven’t been strongly linked with any players from either side recently, but there’s a chance someone may have caught Pochettino’s eye ahead of the summer.
