After being linked to Sporting CP midfielder João Palhinha for over an year, Tottenham Hotspur are finally preparing to make an attempt to sign him, according to reports from Portugal.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias today writes that Spurs should make a bid for the midfielder ‘within the month’.
The outlet claims that manager Antonio Conte wants to reinforce their midfield and Palhinha is the ‘ideal element’ to improve that sector at the London side.
Tottenham’s plan is said to be of first seeing what position they’ll finish in the Premier League, as a place in the Champions League would be ‘decisive’ to convince the player.
However, Jornal de Notícias don’t seem to know how much Tottenham are exactly bidding for Palhinha.
Still, they point out Spurs are aware of the player’s valuation, which used to be of around €60m in January, has now dropped to €40m.
The London side is then expected to be the first to actually move for the 26-year-old, while he also draws the interest from other Premier League sides such as Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Now in case Tottenham don’t land the Portuguese midfielder, it’s said they have other options for the position, such as Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans.
