Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb has been featuring a few interesting stories on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans.

First of all, on Tuesday afternoon, they reported that Spurs were one step from signing Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal.

It was claimed Tottenham had overtaken Everton for the signing, and the player had already flown to London to close the transfer.

Now TMW comes up with a new story claiming Danjuma wasn’t the first name on Spurs’ list, as they had already moved for a Serie A player.

That’s Gerard Deulofeu, the former Everton and Watford winger who now belongs to Udinese. It’s said there was ‘some distance’ between the offer presented by Tottenham and the demands from the Serie A side.

According to the story, Tottenham wanted Deulofeu on a loan deal, and that was turned down by the Italian club, who’d rather negotiate his exit as a permanent move, and could still work on his departure this month.

Having failed to sign Deulofeu, they went for Danjuma, and that saw his move to Everton collapsed today. That seems to be an unexpected outcome for what Spurs were initially planning.
