On Wednesday, we covered claims from Spain that Villarreal have a verbal agreement with Giovani Lo Celso but are struggling to agree a deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
The player was said to be frustrated with the situation, wanting to find himself a new club quickly so he can work fully ahead of the new season. Antonio Conte doesn’t see a place for him at Spurs in the coming campaign, and with the World Cup on the horizon it’s key to start playing football soon and to impress.
Thursday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport covers Napoli interest, and it’s explained the Serie A club’s director of sport has made initial contact to find out the terms of a deal.
However, he’s been told the valuation that Tottenham have for the player is €20-22m, which Corriere say is ‘remarkable’.
Given what Lo Celso cost Spurs, that he had a good second half of the season with Villarreal, has a contract until 2025, is an Argentina international and has plenty of time left at the age of 26, such a price actually seems very reasonable.
Indeed, Tottenham being Tottenham, it’s a surprise they’re not asking for more.
There’s no rush right now for a deal, and Spurs may as well wait until well into August before dropping their demands or considering a loan.
