Over the past few days, we’ve carried reports covering Arsenal’s interest in signing Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira.
The Serie A club’s president, Massimo Ferrero had earlier made it clear interested clubs need to meet the player’s asking price, which is his €25m.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato earlier reported the Gunners were ready to pay €30m for Torreira, which is €5m more than his release clause.
Calcio Mercato claims by paying a higher fee to Sampdoria, Arsenal can pay the transfer fee in instalments. This would not have been the case if the north London club had agreed to pay only Torreira’s release clause.
Now, the Sampdoria president has said during an, interview with Sport Italia, that Torreira has already left the Italian outfit for €30m.
“Sampdoria does not sell unless there are excellent offers. We do not look for buyers because we have natural talents whose value increases exponentially,” Ferrero told Sport Italia via Calcio Mercato.
“Torreira left for €30m. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed him. We bet on the player and we won, paying just €3m. The money that comes from his sale will be used to strengthen the squad.”
Torreira is currently with Uruguay at the 2018 World Cup. Ferrero’s comments on the South American midfielder should come as a welcome boost for Unai Emery’s side.
