With the loan of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea to AS Roma now over, the Blues can rest easy, knowing he’s a problem for next year rather than the present.

The Belgian was no longer in the Stamford Bridge side’s plans, even before Mauricio Pochettino took the job, and the Argentine’s arrival didn’t change that.

A long saga ensued, ending with the loan to AS Roma, where the player will team up with José Mourinho again, which the player is very excited about, telling as much to his new club’s official channels, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb.

What came across in the interview as well was how desperate he was to leave Chelsea, which isn’t that surprising when you think about it, considering his situation before the deal.

Asked about the importance of Roma’s desire to sign him, he said: “All it took was one call. The owners called me a few days before the agreement, we spoke for 30 minutes about the ambition they have for this club and for the fans. From there, everything went quickly.”

The Chelsea loanee will be teaming up with Mourinho for the third time, having previously done so at Stamford Bridge and Manchester United, and he is also delighted to find players he knows well at his new club.

Adapting to Serie A football also won’t be difficult for him after his recent spells at Inter Milan, meaning he should fit right into Mourinho’s plans, fitness permitting.
