Nottingham Forest signed Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla on a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer window.
The Argentina international has been restricted to six appearances this season and hasn’t made an appearance for the Tricky Trees since October.
Earlier this month, Olé reported the 26-year-old is analysing the possibility of leaving Nottingham Forest in January.
He was part of La Albiceleste’s World Cup winning squad and on the first anniversary, the right-back spoke to D Sports and his comments are relayed by Doble Amarilla. Montiel has also explained his current situation at the Premier League side.
“I continue training, as always, fighting, so that when it’s my turn I’m available. Always with a firm head, trying to handle it well. I’m with Nico Domínguez, who lives next door,” he said.
Recent claims have stated River Plate are interested in signing the South American next month. Last week, River Plate president Jorge Brito revealed his side would love to bring him back to the club.
When asked about the possibility of joining the Argentine club, Montiel explained: “It is not yet the time. I am at Nottingham Forest, training, when it is my turn, I have to be ready.”
TNT Sports have also relayed more quotes from the Nottingham Forest player, where he insisted that his priority is to continue in Europe.
“Today I am happy in Europe and I want to continue here. Later I would like to return to River, but it is later,” the Argentine added.
Despite his latest comments, TNT Sports explain that River Plate won’t give up on Montiel and could make an attempt, if he were to not find a new team in Europe in January.
