Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães was interviewed this weekend by Brazilian Youtube channel 3 na Área.

It’s now been ten months since the midfielder left Lyon to join the Magpies on a €42m deal, and with him doing great in this period, he has nothing to complain about the club.

As usual, the 24-year-old started the conversation talking about the huge affection he’s been getting from Newcastle fans, also pointing out that despite the weather, he’s been loving to live there as well.

“Man, I think this affectionate relationship with the fan is unique to me,” Bruno Guimarães told 3 na Área.

“It’s been wonderful. Sometimes, I even joked in another interview, I look like the mayor of the city. Where I go, the crowd screams ‘Bruno, Bruno’, I can’t do anything at all, the guys here are crazy for me. It’s a huge affection. I’ve been enjoying the city quite a bit, despite being so damn cold. I think that’s the only problem.

“But it’s been really cool to play in the Premier League, it’s always been my dream and playing well with us fourth in the Premier League now, so it’s something that has been, for me, without a doubt, one of the best years of my career, I think.”

Now despite the great relationship with Newcastle fans, Bruno Guimarães has a little issue there, which is the local accent.

The player was praised about his evolution in the English language, admitting how easier it’s been to be interviewed by local journalists, but he claims that he still struggles to understand what many people say.

“It’s difficult. Even more so here in the north of England, guys come to talk to me on the street… even more here, it’s a Geordie accent or something. Wow, it’s very heavy. Guys have three eggs in their mouths to talk to you. ‘I hope this guy stops talking to me soon so I can leave, I don’t understand anything’ (laughs).”

Asked about the difficulties of adapting to a new country, Bruno Guimarães claims he does his best to feel good in Europe.

His biggest complain about Newcastle continues to be the weather, but he makes it clear he’s very happy at the club and in love with the affection from fans.
