Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund have been linked with taking over Inter Milan since before they sealed a deal for Newcastle United.
There was a time the PIF were thought to be looking at the Serie A side as an alternative to the Magpies, as the process of buying the Premier League club was a long and bumpy road.
However, since the deal for Newcastle has been concluded, the claims from Italy about PIF wanting Inter have only increased. There’s been claims of offers made, talks ongoing, and although not all the reports agree, there’s a good number of Italian journalists convinced something is happening.
Maurizio Pistocchi is one of those, and has given his views to Passione Inter.
Asked about the situation around the Zhang family and the PIF, the journalist said: “The idea I have is that Zhang will no longer be able to keep Inter, for various reasons: both economic and political. I think there is a realistic negotiation standing with PIF.
“A negotiation they often talk to me about in Milanese circles, and people from different backgrounds. So if it comes from multiple sources, as Agatha Christie said: ‘One clue is one clue, two clues are coincidence but three clues are proof’.”
Should Saudi’s PIF manage to acquire a controlling stake in Inter Milan then it would be an interesting development for Newcastle United. The two clubs could work together in the transfer market, as has been shown with Watford and Udinese, who are both owned by the Pozzo family, and who clearly work together in the transfer market.
