When Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League in the 2022/23 season there was an immediate assumption in Italy that Wilfried Gnonto would be leaving and heading back to Italy into the welcoming arms of a Serie A club.

Rumours persisted through the summer and there was some agitation for a move but in the end he continued at Elland Road. Now, given the failure to gain promotion from the Championship, the assumptions have returned.

Gnonto has been linked with Premier League clubs in recent weeks, with Everton one of those thought to have an interest, but there still interest in Italy too.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Inter Milan and InterLive report three Serie A clubs are ‘hunting’ his signing.

Parma, Venezia and Genoa are the clubs involved and it’s thought Gnonto could revolutionise any of their attacks, with big hopes attached to what he could bring to them.

InterLive then go on to say ‘Gnonto has signed a long contract expiring in June 2027. An agreement that however could almost be worthless given the player’s desire to return to Italy.’

Well, no. Leeds United will expect a reasonable transfer fee and that’s where the three clubs named are likely to have issues.
