On Monday, we covered comments from Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson regarding some of the outgoing business at the Dutch club in the summer window.
The Eredivisie side saw Carlos Forbs join Wolves and Steven Bergwijn move to Al-Ittihad, without either being replaced. Sure, there were plans to bring someone in, but that ultimately ended in failure.
Henderson explained how, in his opinion, both are great players, and he said it wasn’t ideal to lose not one, but two wingers at the close of the market.
Of course, he’s not the only one confused by Ajax letting the pair go to Wolves and Al-Ittihad.
The Dutch club’s goalkeeper Remko Pasveer was on TV on Monday evening, and SoccerNews quote him as saying: “It was unexpected that both Bergwijn and Forbs were sold just before the transfer window closed, without a new winger being signed, which is what we would have liked. This is a problem.”
It’s not great when multiple senior players are speaking to the media about unhappiness with a couple of late transfers, and explaining how it’s weakened the squad. Ajax is never far away from drama and this is merely the latest episode.
Meanwhile, football legend Marc Overmars was on the same show and when he was asked about the situation, he appeared to have completely missed the winger joining Wolves: “Is Forbs gone too?”
That’s prompted some laughter around the Netherlands, where – let’s just say Overmars isn’t known for being as sublime with his opinions as he was with his feet.
