Since rejecting a transfer to Nottingham Forest, Santiago Giménez hasn’t exactly had the best of luck or the best of times generally.
Whereas many in England thought Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were pushing their luck with an attempt for the striker, believing he was deserving of a perceived bigger club, in the Netherlands it’s fair to say opinion was split.
If anything, the weight of feeling was that the Nottingham Forest offer was good for Feyenoord and it was a shame the Mexico international wasn’t so keen.
Since he snubbed Nottingham Forest, he hasn’t scored a goal, with his last strike coming in mid August. He didn’t score during the recent international break and hasn’t found the back of the net for Mexico since July 2023, despite playing 14 times since.
The 2022/23 season began with Santiago Giménez absolutely racing out of the blocks and blasting goals everywhere in the Eredivisie.
He scored an impressive 20 goals in 30 league matches, but only five of those came in 2024, and the Dutch media won’t stop talking about his mediocre six months… hence many there wishing he’d have gone to Nottingham Forest.
Now there’s more bad news.
After the striker picked up an injury, Feyenoord have stated he’ll be out for three months with a thigh injury.
Maybe a chance for the 23-year-old to reset and come back in his best form that he showed at the start of the 2022/23 season.
