Even though Flamengo won a Rio de Janeiro derby against Vasco da Gama 2-1 on Sunday, most Monday shows are still talking about Andreas Pereira.
The Manchester United loanee made a mistake which led to the opponents’ goal, and when subbed off, was booed by his own club’s fans again.
His situation was discussed at Jovem Pan Esportes, with journalist Mauro Cézar Pereira pointing out that Flamengo should still consider not buying the midfielder from the Red Devils.
It’s been reported for weeks that the clubs have an agreement to make the transfer permanent for €10m, which is half of the previously agreed buying option, that stands at €20m. However, many people claim they should call it off.
Now besides Pereira’s problems on the pitch, Flamengo are also facing a financial issue as the Brazilian central bank are charging them for unpaid taxes from the 90s. That’s why the club stopped making signings for now, and according to Mauro Cezar, that’s a reason why they could give up on the purchase.
“I think there’s a chance that it will collapse. Now it will depend on what justice will resolve,” he said.
The journalist also pointed out that since the agreement was not made official, Manchester United could still find another buyer.
“Regarding the English club, it’s that thing, they haven’t signed yet. They can also sell to another. If another interested club appears, the player wants to leave, they take him and sell him.”
