Links between Christian Eriksen and Barcelona were weak to say the least. Started in the English media, even the Catalan newspapers pretty much dismissed it, which is telling because their natural reaction is usually to hype things even more.

The Danish press loved the links and spent last week trying to convince themselves there was truth in it. So, whilst it all quickly died a death in England, and was never really born in Spain, the Tottenham star moving to Barcelona dragged on in Denmark… and is still dragging on.

Danish newspaper BT spoke to Eriksen’s agent, and even he wasn’t keen to talk up a potential summer transfer to Barcelona. When asked about the recent reports, Martin Schoots said: “I prefer not to comment on what the newspapers write about the future. The only thing Christian wants to do is focus on playing his matches.

“We let the rumours be rumoured, even now, when Christian’s merits as a player who sets up a goal, are better than anyone else, and now he scores also very important goals.

“Christian just wants to be important for the team, it is the only thing that matters to him.”

Will that be the end of the Danish media getting excited about Eriksen leaving Tottenham for Barcelona? No, probably not.

However, today BT did publish an article accepting that Eriksen may not be high on Barcelona’s wish-list after-all.
