Over the weekend Sky’s sources told the TV channel that Kasper Schmeichel is now first choice to replace David De Gea at Manchester United. The story fell down a little because those same sources told Sky: ‘And last month A Bola newspaper in Spain reported that if Real Madrid fail to land De Gea, then Schmeichel could well be their next target.’
A Bola is a Portuguese newspaper, and it was not they with the Schmeichel claims, which were nonsense anyway.
Regardless of the rumour clearly getting carried away with itself, it’s all good news for Leeds United. As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds get 10% of Schmeichel’s transfer fee over £1.2m.
The cut was agreed as part of the deal when Schmeichel left Elland Road for Leicester City. With an ever rising profile, Leeds United’s transfer windfall looks to be increasing all the time.
However, it’ll be interesting to see which clubs actually come in for Schmeichel this summer. Garry Monk could be set for a little boost to his Leeds United transfer kitty, should the hyped up ‘keeper make a move.
