After months being heavily linked to English clubs in the January window, it seems that the Brazilian forward Malcom is still ready to leave Bordeaux and pick his next destination.
The player was said to be on the verge of a move to Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur last month, but the French side blocked the move, and the North London clubs ended up landing other targets.
But now as the player spoke to Brazilian website UOL, he’s revealed there’s an agreement for him to move in the summer, and it will be him who will choose the club he signs for.
Speaking to journalist Rafael Reis, Malcom said: “I’ve already said that I wanted to leave to pursue new objectives. But I also have to remember that Bordeaux helped me a lot. I gave them my word that I would continue to have more time to think about which club I will play for. Those three or four months will make a lot of difference.”
“Yes, there’s a promise that I will be negotiated in June. I will choose the team, and Bordeaux will let me go.”
The journalist writes that Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal all made contacts for him in the January window, but there’s no info if any of these clubs would still be interested in a summer transfer.
Towards the end of January, Malcom was said to have ‘delighted’ after a meeting with Mauricio Pochettino. The Brazilian and his entourage were ‘convinced’ Spurs were the ‘best option’, and moving to Tottenham was seen as the player’s ‘imminent destiny’.
Malcom can play on the left and as a striker, whereas Lucas Moura is primarily a right winger. Tottenham interest remaining could depend on the futures of Erik Lamela and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou.
