Despite having confirmed that he’s likely to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, it seems Fernandinho is still not working on finding his next destination.
Initial reports from Brazil have already claimed that the midfielder is completely focused on his final months in the Premier League, and it seems the interested clubs are getting this response as well.
At the weekend, Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz had a word with the local media, and following the rumours about their chase for Fernandinho, he was asked if there have been any contacts so far.
“As soon as he is released, we will talk. There’s nothing. I know his agent. He didn’t sort his life. There’s nothing,” said Braz (via Torcedores).
ESPN Brasil reporter Cícero Melo was also asked about the rumour, and brought a similar response.
“I talked about Fernandinho, who is free in the market. At the moment, he (Braz) said no, that it was not passed to Paulo Sousa. When Fernandinho is free, in July, they will analyse whether they’re interested or not.”
Fernandinho’s contract with Manchester City expires in June, and that’s why Brazilian clubs now see this as a great chance to bring him back to his country. The word in the local media is that Athletico Paranaense, the midfielder’s former side, will have his priority when the time comes.
