With Edinson Cavani’s departure from Manchester United this summer looking nearly certain, several clubs have been showing up as potential destinations for the 35-year-old.

And even though most rumours have been linking the striker with a return to South America or a move to more modest Spanish clubs, we now see Real Madrid pointed out as a possibility.

The information comes from outlet Fichajes, who today say Cavani is a ‘plan b’ for the Santiago Bernabeu side in case they don’t get to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

They claim the Uruguayan could arrive at Real Madrid ‘accepting his role’ as a bench alternative for Karim Benzema, and manager Carlo Ancelotti ‘would’ve already given the green light’ for his arrival.

Fichajes claim Real Madrid now evaluate the possibility of making an ‘interesting offer’ for Cavani, as he’d be a short-term fix who’d arrive for free following the end of his contract with Manchester United.

Even though the striker is expected to have many more offers in the summer, the chance to join the Galacticos would certainly sound more appealing to him.

Cavani, who only has two goals scored for Manchester United this season, hasn’t played for the club for over a month.
