Arriving at Everton as their new director of football on February 25th 2022, Kevin Thelwell doesn’t appear to have wasted any time drawing up a list of potential targets in the MLS the Toffees could go after.
We say this because it shouldn’t come as a coincidence that a few days after the former head of sport at New York Red Bulls started his job at Goodison Park, we now see a USA international being linked with the Premier League side.
The man in question is Djordje Mihailovic, currently at CF Montréal, who has attracted a lot of attention with his performances last season, during which he scored four goals and assisted another 14 from midfield.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, and with already six USA caps to his name, the 23-year-old is, according to Jeunes Footeux in France, being followed by a very long list of European sides, among which can be found Everton.
The likes of Borussia Dortmund, AS Roma and OGC Nice are among those named, while Leeds and Newcastle are also on his case from the Premier League.
They are all said to be ‘attentively following’ Mihailovic, who is reportedly valued at €5m, but the MLS side aren’t expected to let him go ‘for less than €8m’.
Such a fee is affordable for pretty much anyone, even a cash-strapped Everton, who could turn their attention to the USA a bit more now with Thelwell at the helm of such matters.
