At this point, it’s fair to say that Newcastle United are going to be interested in pretty much every player who can kick a ball better than most.

The club, who now have near unlimited backing since the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund took over from Mike Ashley, are desperate to get back to the top half of the table in the near future, and if January was anything to go by, money will be spent.

That’s not to say that every new signing will arrive accompanied with a hefty price tag, as there is always room for clever business, with the MLS now presenting a growing selection of talented players to choose from.

We say this because Jeunes Footeux in France claim Newcastle are one of many sides interested in Djordje Mihailovic, who is attracting a lot of attention with his performances on the other side of the pond.

Currently contracted to CF Montréal, the attacking midfielder had four goals and 14 assists in 34 league appearances last season, which has caused many teams to start ‘attentively following’ his performances, including the Magpies.

Whether this goes onto being anything beyond just monitoring remains to be seen, but with the website claiming that Montréal will want at least €8m for his services, he could be a cheap and relatively risk-free purchase for Eddie Howe’s side if they want to add a bit more creativity in midfield.
