This week has seen West Ham added to the list of clubs said to be interested in Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
It was reported the Hammers are ‘working hard’ to secure the Denmark international’s services and are facing competition from Tottenham, Napoli, RB Leipzig and Chelsea.
As Dorgu continues to impress for the Italian side this season and looks to take his tally beyond three goals in the campaign, Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport about the Dane’s future.
He made it clear that West Ham and other clubs will only be able to sign Dorgu in the summer transfer window, and not this winter.
He said: “A footballer of his genre has admirers, we would miss him, and for him [it is] certain that there are many, even abroad.
“But Dorgu remains here and then in summer it will be discussed, because his fate is addressed, the future belongs to him.”
Corvino’s comments pretty much rule out the possibility of a January move.
The 20-year-old doesn’t just have three league goals to his name, but has also shown a vast amount of versatility this season, playing at left back and on either wing.
He also scored on his Denmark debut, which suggests that West Ham are right to monitor his progress and that he could be a key signing for the present and future.
