Micky van de Ven is not going to replace Virgil van Dijk in the Netherlands first-team just yet, despite his impressive performances.

That’s according to journalist Süleyman Öztürk, who does not believe Ronald Koeman will be making that major change to his side any time soon.

Van de Ven has been impressing for Tottenham since arriving in the summer and has continued that in the last few weeks after bouncing back from a long-term injury.

He is in particularly fine form in the weekend draw with Everton, putting in an imperious display in the centre of defence keeping the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet.

The Tottenham player earned particularly rave reviews for some of the speed he showed off the ball, with one particular sprint seeing him top the Premier League charts and likened to an Olympic sprinter.

It was a good weekend to be in such good form given Virgil van Dijk’s struggles for Liverpool in the defeat to Arsenal, but Öztürk can’t see that swaying Koeman just yet, even if the Tottenham man is like Superman.

“The problem is that there is no good answer,” he said in regard to the Netherlands debate.

“Because then the Netherlands will have to pass the captain (Virgil van Dijk) and that’s not going to happen.

“But it is of course true that if the national coach sees a Superman flying across the training field in a Rolls-Royce, a consideration may have to be made.

“Perhaps there can be a bit of shifting at the back in terms of position fillings, but usually you don’t move the captain, the person who is the cement between the bricks.”
