If Elias Sorensen gets his way then Newcastle United won’t be scrambling around in future windows trying to sign a striker. The 18 year Dane is determined to breakthrough at St James’ Park, and score in front of supporters he often sits among.
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet have a feature on the player this weekend, and have managed to get a chat with him.
Ekstra Bladet say it’s a dream for Sorensen to make it with Newcastle, and they quote the player as saying: “That’s where I want to score. It would be a big deal. Football means so much to people here. I seriously believe that all Newcastle people are Newcastle fans.
It is sold out, no matter what match it is. Football is everything in Newcastle.”
Leading scorer for Newcastle United’s youth team, Sorensen has six goals in his last five matches, so his dream isn’t an unrealistic one to hold.
Moving to English football at the age of 16, it was a big change for the youngster, and he told Ekstra Bladet that it was a little difficult to begin with: “It was hard at first, of course. You are away from family and friends so the first months I was somewhat lonely.
“But then I got to know my teammates better and got better at English, and that helped. Now there are more people I’m really talking to and people are good here so it’s going really well.”
Facing a few ups and downs since that move, the penny really dropped for Sorensen in the autumn, explain Ekstra Bladet, and since then he’s got a whole new level of commitment and determination: “It came to my mind that this is my life now. That’s what I want to live for, that’s how I want to earn my money. That’s what I want. I’ve figured out what it takes and I do it.”
And there’s nowhere else Sorensen would rather be chasing his dream: “It is here in Newcastle that I want to start my career and then we have to see what happens next.
But it’s a good club in a good city. It’s not too big, not too small. It’s just right.”
