With Lucas Moura seeming likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, his potential return to São Paulo continues to be a subject in the Brazilian media.
Even the player himself usually feeds those stories, and this time, it was club director Carlos Belmonte who talked about that possibility.
The São Paulo chief spoke to Arnaldo e Tironi channel on Youtube, and claimed there’s nothing really decided once Lucas walks from Tottenham.
“Lucas Moura, we’ve talked several times. When he goes back to Brazil, that’s already agreed, and we trust Lucas’ word, the first team he’s going to look for is São Paulo. And then we’re going to make the decision: is it possible? Affordable? Is it worth it?” said Belmonte (via ESPN Brasil).
“We don’t know when it will happen. Lucas has a huge affection for São Paulo and so do we, but it will depend on the moment. He is always on our radar, but it is no guarantee that he will come to São Paulo”.
When Lucas Moura signed his last deal for Tottenham, the club announced it until 2024, and many English outlets to say that’s the expiry date for his deal.
However, not only the Brazilian media, but also the player and his staff usually claim he can leave the club for free at the end of the current season.
Lucas Moura is expected to wait and see if there’ll be good offers from Europe for him to continue his career.
Only in case that doesn’t happen, then there’s a chance he could return to Brazil and perhaps sign for his former club, for whom he shows big affection.
