It’s been a week since Manchester United officially announced Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will be their new permanent manager from next season.
Since then, the Red Devils have already been linked to several players across the outfield positions.
A day after Ten Hag’s summer arrival was confirmed, journalist Rudy Galetti reported the Dutchman’s first signing as the Manchester United manager will ‘most likely be a centre-back’.
He also stated that Villarreal star Pau Torres and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber are the two main targets for the Premier League side. The Yellow Submarine star was the Old Trafford club’s radar last summer, before they signed Raphaël Varane.
The 52-year-old knows Timber firsthand as he is currently managing him at Ajax. The 20-year-old can play anywhere across the back line, but his preferred position is in the heart of the defence.
Torres is back on Manchester United’s agenda and Galetti again took to Twitter to provide a fresh update on both Unai Emery’s man and the Netherlands international.
The manager could then also use Timber as a right-back, while Torres is to be ‘paired’ with Varane next season.
🚨🔥 #ManUTD, as anticipated, there is particular focus on the defense reinforcements.
🎯 #TenHag would like #Timber and Pau #Torres, with the 🇳🇱 to be used also as a right-back, while the 🇪🇦 to be paired with #Varane as a centre-back. 🐓⚽ #MUFC #Calciomercato #Transfers https://t.co/MFNTpTcF50
