Erik ten Hag is ‘doing everything he can’ to bring Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say United have made a €45m bid for the Argentine, who is open to the move to Old Trafford.
They report that Manchester United are trying to ‘outdo’ Arsenal in the race for Martinez, with the Gunners also prepared to pay a €40m fee last week.
That figure was composed of a €35m bid plus €5m in bonuses, something that Manchester United have trumped.
Their first offer is composed of a €41m fixed bid and €4m in bonuses, although Ajax are expected to reject that proposal.
Technical manager Gerry Hamstra and his right-hand man Klaas-Jan Huntelaar don’t want to lose Martinez but do realise that every player has a price and so have set a €50m figure on his head.
They also have to deal with Martinez, who, after three successful seasons in Amsterdam, is ready to move on.
He ‘hopes to make his Premier League dream come true’ and at Manchester United would reunite with a coach, Ten Hag, who knows him well and is ‘charmed’ by his defensive and constructive qualities.
It is because of that that he is pushing United to get a deal over the line and beat Arsenal to Martinez’s signature.
