Ousmane Dembele to Newcastle United continues to be a theme in the Spanish media, with it very much seeming like the player’s agent is using Magpies interest, whether existent or not, to pressure Barcelona into offering higher figures on a renewal.
For months it’s been reported that Barca are frustrated with those representing the Frenchman, and there’s been an insistence that if it were down to Dembele alone then he’d choose to stay where he is.
El Chiringuito report, via La Sexta, that Dembele has now told Xavi Hernandez not to count on him for next season, giving the indication that he’ll likely be moving elsewhere.
That could be another plan to pile further pressure on Barcelona.
El Chiringuito’s Jota Jordi explained: “Dembele has told Xavi not to count on him for next year. He has an offer from England of a lot of money, with a transfer bonus because he would go free.”
Le Sexta then say ‘the team would be Newcastle United’, with the club described as ‘the new rich man of the Premier League’.
Barcelona are going to continue to try and convince Dembele and his representatives that staying at the Camp Nou is the best way forward. It’s likely they’re going to have to increase their renewal offer to have any success.
